Lachit Borphukan was born on 24 November 1622 in Charaideo, Assam, to Momai Tamuli Borbarua, a senior officer in the administration of Raja Pratap Singh, and Kunti Moran. He was the youngest son of his parents and was educated in humanities and military skills.


Lachit Borphukan was known for his excellent leadership skills and diplomatic abilities. He was a skilled horse rider and proficient in using weapons. After completing his education, he was appointed as the flag bearer of Ahom Swargadeo. He also held the positions of Superintendent of the Royal Horse Guards of Ahom King Chakradhwaj Singh and Strategic Incharge of Simulgarh Fort.


Throughout his life, Lachit Borphukan fought fiercely against the Mughals and won several battles against them. The Battle of Saraighat in 1671 was one of the most significant battles in which he played a pivotal role. The Mughals attacked from the river in Saraighat, but due to Lachit's excellent leadership, the Assamese army emerged victorious in the battle.
