One evening a blind ass lost his way in a thick wood. He did not know whether to go right or left. By good luck an owl was at hand and he offered to become the donkey's guide. The owl, who can see well at night, led the donkey safely back to the road. The donkey felt very grateful to the owl and thought highly of the owl's power to show him way. He begged the owl to stay with him and be his guide during the day. The owl agreed. As proud as a lord he sat on the donkey's back and the two friends started on their way.
